Time To Purchase Your First Lawnmower? 4 Tips To Help You Choose The Right Model

If you've recently purchased your first home, and you've never taken care of a yard before, the first thing you need to do is buy a lawnmower. But, that can be a daunting task, especially if you've never owned a lawnmower before. Luckily, you don't need to stress yourself out over the purchase. Use the tips provided here to find the perfect lawn mower for your new landscaping.

Style

If you need to buy a new lawnmower, it's important that you identify the style that will best suit your needs. There are three specific types of lawnmowers: rotary, reel and mulcher. Rotary mowers are the most common types available. They utilise blades that rotate across the surface of the lawn. Reel mowers have blades that work more like a pair of scissors when cutting the grass. One benefit of the reel mower is that the blades seal the ends of the cut grass, reducing damage to the lawn. Finally, mulcher mowers cut grass into fine pieces that can be used as natural mulch for your lawn.

Size of Yard

Now that you need to choose a new lawnmower, you'll need to consider the size of your yard, especially the amount of grass that will need to be mowed. The size of your lawn will determine the type of lawnmower you need. For instance, if you have a small area of lawn, you can choose a compact lawnmower. However, if you have a large lawn area to be mowed, you'll need a larger lawnmower. In fact, for a larger lawn space, a riding mower might serve you best.

Power Source

If you're in the market for a new lawnmower, it's important that you consider the type of power you want to use. Lawnmowers offer three different power source options: petrol, electric and manual. Petrol lawnmowers use petrol, which means you'll need to keep a supply of petrol on hand for landscaping needs. Electric lawnmowers are powered by electricity. Electric models utilise either electric power cords or battery packs. Finally, manual lawn mowers utilise human power, which means you'll provide the power by manually pushing the mower. Manual lawn mowers are best for smaller lawns.

Type of Terrain

Finally, if you're ready to buy your first lawnmower, don't forget about the terrain. If your lawn area is flat and smooth, you shouldn't need a heavy-duty lawnmower. However, if you plan to mow a more rugged terrain, or your lawn area includes steep hills and valleys, you'll need to choose a heavy-duty lawnmower.
